Why Use a Custom Email Domain
By default, Pocket sends pass enrollment and notification emails from a generic Pocket address. With a custom email domain, emails come from your own domain (e.g., hello@yourbusiness.com) instead, improving deliverability and brand trust. Recipients are more likely to open and engage with emails that come from a recognizable sender.
Getting Started
Navigate to Customize > Pass Email or Settings > Integrations in your Pocket dashboard.
Setup Steps
Enter your desired from-email address — for example, hello@yourbusiness.com. This is the address your members will see in their inbox.
Pocket generates DNS records — after entering your email, Pocket will display a set of CNAME entries required for SendGrid domain authentication.
Add the DNS records to your domain's DNS settings — log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider and add the provided CNAME records.
Click Verify — return to Pocket and click Verify to confirm the DNS records have propagated correctly.
Enable link branding (optional) — this makes tracking links in your emails use your domain instead of a generic SendGrid domain, further reinforcing your brand.
DNS Records Needed
You will typically need to add the following DNS records:
3 CNAME records for domain authentication — these verify to SendGrid that you own the domain and authorize Pocket to send on your behalf.
1 CNAME record for link branding (optional) — this makes tracked links in your emails display your domain.
The exact record values are generated by Pocket and displayed in the setup flow. Copy them carefully into your DNS provider.
DNS Propagation
After adding the DNS records, verification may take up to 48 hours for DNS propagation, though it often completes within a few hours. If verification fails on the first attempt, wait and try again later.
Tips
Double-check that you copy the DNS records exactly as shown — even a small typo will cause verification to fail.
Use a DNS lookup tool (such as MXToolbox) to confirm your records are live before clicking Verify.
If you use a subdomain (e.g., mail.yourbusiness.com), make sure you add the records under the correct subdomain in your DNS settings.
Once verified, send a test email to yourself to confirm everything looks correct before emailing members.
If you change DNS providers in the future, remember to re-add the CNAME records and re-verify in Pocket.
